Here is a very sweet video about Clarity Breathwork, featuring my beautiful teachers: Ashanna Solaris and Dana DeLong.

Enjoy.

I have heard Athletes talk about being “in the zone,” and I have read many accounts of Artists and Musicians describing their experience of “aesthetic rapture.” Now I am finding people from every discipline talking about “Flow.”

Flow is a state of complete focus, mental clarity and instinctive action. The characteristics of Flow are: the sensation of being outside normal reality; the feeling of timelessness; the sense that you are part of something larger; the absence of physical pain; and the experience of ecstasy.

The term Flow was coined by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, (pronounced “CHICK-sent-me-high-ee”) one of the world’s leading researcher on positive psychology. Check out his Ted Talk “What makes a life worth living?”

In a WIRED interview about, of all things, web sites, Csikszentmihalyi  was asked “What do you mean by flow?” His response was:

“Being completely involved in an activity for its own sake. The ego falls away. Time flies. Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one, like playing jazz. Your whole being is involved, and you’re using your skills to the utmost.”

I experience the state of Flow every workday in my healing practice. I watch my clients access Flow. Healers are Flow Hackers.

My fascination with the concept of Flow began when a friend sent me an NPR link of Dave Iverson interviewing Steven Kotler. Kotler is the author of “The Rise of Superman: Decoding the Science of Ultimate Human Performance”. Kotler is now on my genius list and “The Rise of Superman” is waiting for me at my local bookstore. In the video below Kotler takes the concept of Flow to a new level:

Definitely check out the videos on Kotler’s website. They are beautifully produced and give you a compelling look into the athlete and artist’s access to the state of Flow. I got an adrenaline rush just watching them. Scroll down to see the videos of Flow Hackers Patricia Parker (Dancer), William Parker (jazz bassist) and Jason Russell (video maker) talking about their creative experience of Flow.

In his video How Far Will You Go For Greatness – The Dark Side of Flow Steven Kotler states “Flow is built around Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose. Three of the most powerful motivators know to man. This is a dangerous edge to walk.” This video address the addictive side to Flow when reached through high-performance athletics such as skateboarding and mountain climbing. It also touches upon the neurochemicals the state of Flow releases in the physical body.

I would say that as a healer, I have experienced Flow though Connection with Higher Source, Mastery and Setting a Loving Intention.

I propose that Flow + Love = Sacred Space.

I think it’s all the same state. When attained through energetic healing and breathwork there isn’t the addictive aspect of the flow state. Healing makes whole, and after a healing clients feel much less addicted, unbalanced, and needy long after the session. In fact, in my practice, energy work has helped many clients overcome physical and emotional addictions.

Flow is a healing state.

Please comment with any thoughts, experiences or ideas.

I would like to share an email I received from a client after her first Clarity Breathwork session. Thank you, J.E., for taking the time to write such a beautiful description of your experience and also giving me permission to post it here.

“I just wanted to check in and let you know how moved I am by our breathwork yesterday.  You are a healer and your gift is a bright light that I am grateful to have in my life.  Yesterday’s session was very intense and the pain nearly unbearable towards the end.  Your intuitive touch and your healing words gave me the strength to move through it…to stay with it…to heal the pain and survive the release.  My guides showed me where I needed to go and when I hit the darkness (the deep past) I don’t think I was prepared for what I found there.  Blessings to you for being so grounded and such a healer as to know that I was safe to continue on.  I am deeply moved.  Had a very peaceful night and woke this morning feeling lifted and balanced.  I am SO looking forward to our session.  Thank you for sharing your gift.  Thank for your bright smile every time I see you and for your healing energy.”

Jeri,

There are no words to express my gratitude for the healing breathwork session. I came to the session with and open mind and heart, but I really had no idea what it was or what it would be like.

What I experienced was phenomenal. It was a phenomena. I have never in my 50 years experienced a more powerful healing modality. I went into the session with some emotional discomfort, grieving and loss as well as some physical discomfort from an overuse injury. After only an hour, I had neither. I have never felt anything like the clear, sharp, calm, centered, bliss feeling I had after the session.

I have tried to describe it to people since, and it is nearly impossible. I have found that there is no way to “get it” except to experience it. I have shared it with many and those who have done a session have had similarly mind-blowing results.

It is the greatest healing gift I have experienced  to date.

Forever grateful,

D.

Recently Mary Gaetjens and I have been asking sound healers to set the energy for our monthly breath circles. The results have been quite powerful for the participants. It appears they can go much deeper into their process if they tone or chant as a group before their breathe.

Looking further into sound healing, I found this wonderful 8 minute video from the sound healing pioneer, Jonathan Goldman. In it, he talks about his research and shares a powerful “aha” moment about the nature of healing. It’s incredible. Thank you, Jonathan Goldman.

Here is a beautiful video about Clarity Breathwork by Kranti Gil.

I would like to thank my Clarity Breathwork teachers, Ashanna Solaris and Dana DeLong for so clearly and eloquently expressing the beautiful essence of Clarity Breathwork.

I am so grateful to have this powerful, life-affirming practice in my life!

Enjoy!

Laurie Ann Lepoff

Laurie Ann Lepoff, a Dance Teacher in Oakland, California, did a series of ten Clarity Breathwork sessions with me to heal her migraines in 2010. In the third session she actually arrived in the early stages of a migraine and released it during the breathe! Click here for the full testimonial. Laurie recently sent me this update and I thought I would share it with you:

“Last month I had tickets to the runway show at the Crucible, a very noisy busy flashy event. I woke up with a really bad migraine and thought maybe I’d just do the dinner beforehand with my friends and skip the show, but the migraine got so bad I couldn’t even do that. So finally I did the breathing (with about 2 hours to spare before my friends showed up to take me to dinner because I kept putting it off). Not only did the migraine disappear but I enjoyed the whole show with 2 hours of blaring music and flashing lights (major migraine triggers on any day) and it didn’t come back!”

This week I would like to post a beautiful account of the benefits and insights a client experienced after her breathwork session. She generously said I could publish it in my blog.

“Right after our private breathe ended, I felt very energized even though it was late and after work. After I had something to eat, I slept really soundly and felt pretty different the next day.

For the rest of the week at work, which was Thursday and Friday, I felt a distinct absence of my usual anxiety, and a greater ability to focus and hold my group with my manager, colleagues, and my clients on a variety of different issues. My job responsibilities are spread out in a number of areas and I often feel like someone is always disappointed with me or wanting me to do something faster and better for them.  For the rest of the week, I was able to really put all of that out of my mind and focus in a way I felt I have not been able to for a very long time.  I think I am often distracted by a feeling of anxiety in my chest throughout the day, and I’ve noticed the breathwork both in our private sessions and in the many group sessions chipping away at the tension that has built up over time in the area around my chest, neck, and shoulders.

I have also noticed that my personal space when I am with people at work or elsewhere feels more fortified in a way. Normally, because I am a pretty sensitive person, it is difficult for me to not pick up on the emotions and energy of other people without it affecting me in some way. This can have the effect of causing me to stray from doing things I need to do or stay focused on my work.  I have felt the space around me to feel more protective and less permeable to outside stimuli from other people or even noise or other influences. This has made a huge difference in my ability to stay present with my own needs and flow of the day.

I feel like there is still a lot more brewing inside. I know that clarity and a sense of being more connected to inner strength has emerged since our private breathwork session, and I am looking forward to see what else unfolds over the next days, and as I continue to more of this amazing work.”

Clarity Breathwork can help keep you centered when focused on a long-term creative project. Shooting a film, launching a new business or remodeling a home is about 10% creativity and 90% hard work. The creative idea is only a small part of the process, the real creativity comes in solving all the problems that arise when manifesting an idea on the physical plane.

About a month ago on a New Dimensions Radio Program, I heard Terry Tempest Williams make the statement, “Courage is sustained attention.”

What a brilliant insight. It really made me think how many clients I have supported who have succeeded in manifesting their visions. I know how much courage it took them to stick with their project.

While supporting clients committed to long-term creative projects, I have noticed this “Sustained Attention” mode is when personal insecurities, old memories and limiting beliefs often surface. Writing a book, launching a new business, or completing a new series of paintings requires addressing and releasing any energetic blocks that stops the creative flow so you can continue to move forward.

A limiting thought like, “I’m not good enough” has to go if you have to make a deadline. Old wounds or past rejections can suddenly constrict energy flow in the physical body by causing an old back injury to emerge or cause you to suddenly not have any time to work.

Commitment takes courage. Being supported during the creative process keeps the whole experience manageable, exciting and even fun. Private Clarity Breathwork sessions are especially powerful because they create the space that allows you to let these blocks surface and release in a safe and gentle way. The focus is on you, your process and your project.

Breathwork keeps you connected to your initial passion as your vision takes form.

Clarity Breathwork is perfect for cutting right through writer’s block. When I need ideas about what to write my next post on, I just do a breath session. I’m amazed at the guidance I receive.

Support yourself as you manifest your goals and vision. Clarity Breathwork makes the creative process a lot more fun!
